Whale Lice

"This poor sweet, trusting calf had so much "lice" all over its body (the light pink colored spots). They are parasites commonly called lice but in reality they are more related to skeleton shrimp and they looked like huge water spiders!! They feed off of algae that is on the whale and also the flaking skin and are found in skin lesions, skin folds, nostrils and eyes. I was inches from this calf and all I wanted to do was rub them all away!"
